Nottinghamshire transport geared up to raise funds for palliative care charity

Mitchells Of Mansfield

Staff from a transport firm are gearing up for a busy few weeks having signed up to a trio of fundraisers to raise much-needed cash for Hayward House - a specialist palliative care unit in the grounds of the City Hospital.

Hayward House is a unique home-from-home environment, where patients with advanced, progressive and terminal illnesses, including those at the end of their life, are cared for by a specialist team of doctors, nurses and therapists. Nottingham Hospitals Charity has launched a
£1.5 million appeal to fund a range of enhancements to the palliative care centre including improvements to the garden area to make it a more accessible and tranquil space for patients and family members, a more welcoming reception and waiting area, and an expansion of the centre’s research and training facilities.

To show their support, staff from Mitchell’s of Mansfield will cycle 1,654 miles this month, the distance between Lands’ End to Hayward House via John o’ Groats as part of its 1654 Project. The company’s entire team will take it in turns to cycle every day for 26 days using an exercise bike at its Sutton-in-Ashfield-based office, who aim to raise £2,000 for the charity.

Mitchell’s of Mansfield, a member of Palletways, will also hold a raffle for its customers and staff who could be in with a chance of winning a helicopter flight for two people, a supercar day or an afternoon tea for two.

Finally, over the weekend of the 16th and 17th July, Mitchell’s of Mansfield crew will take charge of a Dragon Boat when they take part in a race at the Victoria Embankment in Nottingham, which they hope will raise an additional £1,000 for the charity.

Richard Montgomery, Managing Director at Mitchell’s of Mansfield, said: “We’ve proudly supported Nottingham Hospitals Charity for four years. This year they’ve asked us to help them raise the massive £1.5m they need to fund enhancements to benefit patients and families that are treated at Hayward House.  Every penny will help this worthy cause - we’re determined to raise as much as we can and we hope the local community gets behind us!”

Joanne Burr, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “Hayward House is a truly special place, staffed by truly special people, which has touched the lives of so many people from across Nottinghamshire. We hope that people from across the county will support our appeal – they can either do this via a donation or by taking part in one of our many fundraising events which will help us provide the very best environment for patients and their families, at a difficult time in their lives. Our thanks go to everyone at Mitchell’s of Mansfield who have been so supportive and we wish them the best of luck with their fundraisers.”
