Celebrating Palletways’ Yorkshire members on Yorkshire Day

Yorkshire day - Palletways UK

This Yorkshire Day, Palletways, the UK’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network and part of Imperial Logistics, celebrates the members that serve the region from as far as Malton in the north to Sheffield in the south.

The annual celebration of all things Yorkshire on 1 August brings together people in the UK’s largest county to celebrate and take pride in their region. For Palletways UK, the day will recognise members that cover the length and breadth of Yorkshire as part of its 130-member strong freight network.

D&P Haulage, based in Hull, was founded in 1984 by brothers David and Paul Charlton who started the business with a one 16-tonne lorry. Based at a disused railway station yard near Beverley, the duo quickly began to develop a reputation for reliability and service. In 2000 they moved to a four-acre site near the Port of Hull and in 2015, they joined the Palletways network. Today, D&P Haulage employs more than 100 members of staff, operates 65 HGV vehicles and its warehousing capacity has grown to 180,000 sq ft of storage space over nine acres. Its entire management team are either from or live in East Yorkshire which means they have a deep understanding of the local market. Commenting Stuart Jackson, sales manager, said: “Palletways has distribution routes which add value to our existing services. Its class-leading IT systems, like its customer portal and order monitoring and tracking systems, deliver operational efficiencies and benefit our customers, both large and small.”

Doncaster-based McGregor Logistics joined the Palletways network eight years ago. Keith Law, managing director, said: “We were initially drawn to Palletways because the service levels were exceptional. Our strategy has always been to provide flexible logistics solutions and to us this means being able to offer a solution to our customers, whatever their requirement. Being part of a pallet network has helped us to provide an all-round service, not just to new customers but to existing customers who were already trading with us via the general haulage and warehousing departments.”

McGregor Logistics has grown significantly since it has been part of the Palletways network and in recent weeks, it has moved to a new 278,000sq facility adjacent to the M18 in Doncaster which includes warehousing and 38 loading bays – coincidentally just a mile from where Keith’s mother was born in 1936. He adds: “We’re hopeful that the new site will facilitate our growth, improve our company profile and open doors for new opportunities.”

Warwick Trimble, network director for Palletways UK, added: “The growth of D&P Haulage and McGregor Logistics demonstrates the importance we place on recruiting experienced firms in the logistics industry and they’re a great asset to the network.  We have six members that are based in the north, south, east and west of Yorkshire. Together they support our customers with superior local collection operations and onwards to their customers across in the UK, Europe and beyond. We’re proud to have such a strong network in this region and we’d like to wish everyone in the region a very happy Yorkshire Day!”

Palletways’ members that cover Yorkshire include PD Bannister Haulage in Bradford, Ward B, McGregor Logistics in Doncaster, The Pink Link in Huddersfield, D&P Haulage in Hull and Walkers Transport in Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire.

They join 130 other independent transport providers that make up the Palletways UK network. They benefit from shared expertise and resources from within the group to deliver consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost-effectively than ever before. The Palletways Group, renowned for its industry-leading IT developments and operational systems, comprises 450+ depots and 20 hub operations, through which it provides collection and distribution services across 24 European countries, including the UK.
